This past week I took the a little break from my typical office work and dedicated 10 straight days to working on an exciting new construction project:
Convert an 80 yr old barn into a shiny new yoga/training space for Lisa and I!
The barn itself is a testament to ‘just do the best you can, but don’t worry about it being perfect’. It has stood tall for decades and was made with pride. Built by hand, crafted with the best resources they had available around them at the time. It has some quirks but it was made to last.
Transitioning from a pretty routine lifestyle of desk work and scheduled training sessions had me feeling pretty confident heading into a brief stint of intense construction and manual labour. It’s only a 10 days I told myself, I can handle that, no problemo.
Well amigos, I got beat-up.
Hours of demolition work, lugging wood, hauling cement blocks, hammering and drilling had left me feeling like I had hams for hands. What started out with so much promise kind of turned a corner after the 3rd or 4th 10hr day. I was waking up with tingling and numb arms from the elbows down and that was not so great.
Then I remembered that the great folks at Genuine Health had recently mailed over some new Fast Pain Relief + capsules for us to try out. I also decided to break open a bottle of Omega 3+ Think as all the hard work had me feeling not only tired, but a bit ‘brain foggy’ to boot.
That very morning I took a Fast Pain capsule and a serving of Omega 3 and hoped for the best. The day went by and I was sitting at the dinner table that night when I realized that my hands were feeling better and my general aches were far less bothersome/the-deathly. I took another FP cap with dinner and headed to bed, thoroughly exhausted. Good news indeed.
I woke up the next day with my hands feeling well worked, but manageable. The swelling noticeably was down (Omega 3’s are a fantastic anti-inflammatory) and the pins and needles were almost completely gone. This small tweak (Omega Oil and Fast Pain Caps) salvaged my project week and kept me going strong.
While I traditionally prefer to try and eat lots of fish(vs supplementing with an Oil) and avoid ‘pain’ medications all together, the stresses of the project and a messy house made these two supplements a life(and hands) saver.
The Omega 3 Think oil has a pleasant citrus taste with no aftertaste at all(no small feat for an oil!). It goes down easy and at one serving a day is super easy to integrate into your meal planning. I give it a 5 out of 5. When I take it I feel like I get an immediate power boost. Something about a chilled oil on a spoon. Makes me feel like I am ‘fuelling the machine’.
The Fast Pain + Capsules were helpful in a pinch and seemed to compliment the Omega 3 Oil nicely. I have stopped taking them daily now as I am back to desk work and don’t feeling like I got stomped by a donkey. They are good to have in the cabinet for when I feel run down. They seem a little less heavy duty and ‘big pharma’ than say a Tylenol or Advil and I dig that. They seem like a solid, natural choice for aches and pains and I like that I can read everything on the label, no crazy 29 letter words. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5.
Stay tuned for more updates on our Big Barn Project! We’re both super excited to finally have a space to call our own. Expect big things from Hoplite and Happy Fit in the coming weeks.
