As some of you may know, my amazing other half Laser (aka super trainer Lisa of happyfit.ca) and our rebellious canine Cody moved to Maui about 6 months ago. I was offered one of those “if you pass this up you’ll regret it FOREVER……..*dry cough and squinty eyes*……..RRRRRR” opportunities. Move to Maui, work with amazingly talented people and we’ll even pay you!
As fun as it has been Lisa and I decided our hearts are back home in the Great White North. It was a tough decision but we are happy to be back on another amazing adventure together. That being said one big takeaway I have from my time in the ALOHA state is this:
I know it can be uncomfortable to dive into something that may make you feel uncomfortable or look silly. If you look at it as learning experience and stop taking yourself so damn seriously you may just have a little fun. Before we even set sail for Maui we were guest speakers and presenters at a big fitness conference in Halifax (Optimyz Health Expo). We had to do two on stage presentations for a few hundred people, plus teach two full workouts.
After we finished our second round the editor for the magazine asked if we wanted to do a photo shoot. We were exhausted but we said yes anyways. As it turns out we are now being featured on not one but TWO back to back issues of their print magazine due out in September and November! It would have been easy to simply say no, but look what happened!
In our time here on Maui we were featured in a widely released promo video and even called in as models for a Hearing Aid center’s website! We still get butterflies in our stomachs each and every time though. We put ourselves out there and nothing but good came from it.
